Humanities and Social Sciences

These short programs from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences are closed to exchange students:

  • Master’s degree (DESS) – Social Administration
  • Master’s degree (DESS) – Arts, Creation and Technology
  • Master’s degree (DESS) – Digital Editing
  • Microprogram (graduate) in International Studies
  • Microprogram (graduate) in Analysis and International Strategy
  • Microprogram (graduate) in Pluralism Practices and Policies

If your program of study is not listed below, then only the normal requirements apply.

Anthropology

Internships and fieldwork courses are not open to exchange students.

Required average
A GPA of at least 12/20 (60%) is required.

Classical Studies

Language requirements 

C1 level of French proficiency is required for non-French-speaking exchange students.

Criminology

Bachelor in Criminology

  • The School of Criminology accepts exchange students for one term only.
  • You must indicate in your cover letter:

    • Your cumulative overall average
    • The level of studies in which you will be enrolled in your home institution when starting the exchange at UdeM

  • Internships are not offered to exchange students. 

Masters in Criminology
The School of Criminology favors applications from institutions with which it has a negotiated agreement. Other new requests may be evaluated depending on the places available.

  • The School accepts exchange students for one term only. 
  • You must indicate in your cover letter:

    • Your cumulative overall average
    • The level of studies in which you will be enrolled in your home institution when starting the exchange at UdeM

  • Internships are not offered to exchange students.
  • Only a limited number of students wishing to enroll in master's courses (6000 level) are accepted.
  • For the 2nd cycle, these theory and methodology courses are closed: CRI 6001, CRI 6002, CRI 6003, CRI 6006, CRI 6007, CRI 6008, CRI 6010, CRI 6533. CRI 6536.

Demography

Only students currently enrolled in a Bachelor at their home university can apply to the Bachelor in Demography.

Required average
Only applicants with an above-average academic record may be selected. A letter of recommendation from the home university (Academic Head, Advisor or other appropriate authority) is required.

Economics

Students must take at least 3 economics courses per term, and may take a maximum of 1 language course per term.

Due to the high number of applications received each year, candidate selection is very competitive. Only applicants with an above-average academic record may be selected.

Language requirements
If your first language is not French, you must provide proof of French proficiency according to the Common European Framework, a C1 or its equivalent is required. Level of written and speaking French must be shown. 

Industrial Relations

Only undergraduate and graduate students with a background in a relevant field of study (management, labor studies, law, political science, work psychology, workforce security, etc.) will be considered.

Closed program
PhD programs are closed to exchange students, with the exception of the research-credit students.

Course requirements

  • Students who wish to take undergraduate courses with prerequisites must first obtain the approval of the program's academic advisor.

  • One or two Master degree courses can be taken only under the academic advisor’s recommendation.

Required average
Only students with an overall average of 12/20 (or its equivalent) and higher will be considered.

Language requirements
If your first language is not French, you must provide proof of French proficiency corresponding to level C1 of the Common European Framework, or its equivalent.

Law

Closed program

  • Master in Notarial Law

Exchange students don't have access to credited activities given by the Legal Clinic.

Required average
Due to the high number of applications received each year, candidate selection is competitive. Only applicants with an above-average academic record may be considered. The Faculty of Law reserves the right to consider students’ professional experience as well as reciprocity of exchange with partner universities in the evaluation of applications.

Course selection
Undergraduate students must choose their courses from the list of courses open to exchange students.

Master in Business Law in a Global Context
This program has very limited spots for exchange students. Please contact us in advance if a student is interested in this program.

Language requirements
A Proof of English proficiency is required for the Master in Business Law and the Master of Laws in Comparative Common Law. Students must have an IELTS of 6.5 or a TOEFL (MyBest Scores accepted) of 90.

Minor in Arts and Sciences

The Minor in Arts and Sciences is a multidisciplinary undergraduate program in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. This program lets exchange students take undergraduate (bachelor’s- level) courses from several different programs of study within this Faculty (they must be authorized by the department offering the course).

Language requirements If your first language is not French, you must submit a proof of French proficiency according to the Common European Framework that includes their level of written and oral French.

DESS and Master in International studies: if your first language is not French, you must submit a proof of French proficiency according to the Common European Framework that includes their level of written and oral French, a C1 or its equivalent is required.

Program specifics

  • Students must take at least 2 political science courses per term.
  • Bachelor in International Studies: students may take a maximum of 1 law course per term.
  • Bachelor in Communication and Politics: students may take a maximum of 2 communication courses per term.
  • Bachelor in Economics and Politics: students must take at least 2 political science courses per term.

Master in Politics - Required average
A minimum GPA of 14/20 (70%) or 4.5/6 for students from Switzerland or 2.5 for students from Germany is required.

Psychology

Required average
Due to the high number of applications received each year, candidate selection is very competitive. A minimum GPA of 14/20 (70%) or 4.5/6 for students from Switzerland or 2.5 for students from Germany is required.

 

Courses specifics

  • Master level (level 6000) courses are limited.
  • The following courses are closed to exchange students: IFT1016, MAT1919, NCM2200, PSY1048, PSY1049, PSY2007, PSY2008, PSY2038, PSY3008, PSY3009, PSY3018, PSY3019, PSY3129, PSY3298, PSY3299, PSY4016, PSY4022, PSY40001, PSY40002 et PSY6013.
  • Students will be asked to read mandatory books in English, a good knowledge of the language is required.
  • Internship, research and clinical courses are closed to exchange students.

Social Work

Students from universities that have a specific agreement directly with the School of Social Work will be prioritised. Other applications will be evaluated according to available places.

Sociology

  • Internships and fieldwork courses are not open to exchange students.
  • A GPA of at least 13/20 (65%) is required.
  • Students applying for the master level must have proficient background in the field of sociology.
